The background of the war.
This battle was the bloodiest battle of the Pacific Wars. The Pacific Wars were the battles fought on or around the Pacific Ocean. The goal of the allies was to capture the island close to the homeland of Japan and seize it. While the U.S. was flying above their landing beaches, Japan was already there waiting for them. Japan had lots of defense lines on the North and South sides of the island. Japan used more of their defense than their offense because they wanted to protect their land. Japan used mostly airplanes, and ships.
